Kitchen Quote

Options
I've been quoted 2k by a local builder to take out the old kitchen and put in a new one, including subbing the gas works, all the plumbing, electrics and tiling. Kitchen isn't very big, but Home base still wanted 3k to do it.

He seemed to know what he was on about. Also, is it worth drawing a contract up with him, or do I just withhold the cash until he's done the job?

Cheers,

Tez

to save even more money rip the kitchen out yourself, depending on the size of the kitchen this should save you half a day to a full days labour.

That is impossible to answer without knowing how many/what type of units and worktops, and what electical/plumbing work you are having done.

The builder can ask for a small amount as soon as materials are delivered (to cover his costs only), but you shouldn't pay before then AT ALL. You most certainly should not be paying for any labour until the job is complete, or unless you have agreed to pay him in stages.

As Kev has said, rip the kitchen out your self as much as possible. it wont save much but will save a few bob.
