possibly stupid question re electric supplier - first flat
I am moving into my first flat this Friday. I've never had electricity in my own name, all the shared houses I've lived in have had the bill in someone else's name. I'm assuming because of this I can't use a 'uswitch' type service to get the cheapest utility service. The property managers won't tell me who the electricity is supplied by at the moment, so I won't know til I move in, but I'm assuming it won't be with the best supplier. Obviously I'll need to get the electricity in my own name as soon as I move in, I've already looked at who the best supplier is for my circumstances (Scottish Power according to Uswitch, Equipower according to MoneySupermarket!). Question is, do I have to call up the previous tenants provider first, or can I just phone Scottish Power and sign up with them directly, telling them who the old supplier was?
Sorry if that's a stupid question - I can find lots of info on moving house where you have a supplier, but technically I don't!
The flat doesn't have gas, so that's not an issue.
Thanks!
