As Adrian said driving is a privilege not a right, in fact the only people who have a legal right enshrined in law to use the roads are pedestrians, horse riders and cyclists. That's why motorists have to apply for a licence, prove their competence by passing a test and of course pay throught the nose for the privilege.
As for houses being affordable in the early '90s who told you that? I worked with people who had to buy houses in shares with friends in order to get on the property ladder. When I bought my first house it nearly killed me the amount I was paying out. The interest rate in 1990 was around 14.5%.It's my problem, it's my problem

I remember the high rates but when we got ours in back in ’85 it cost 25k which even at 10% plus interest rates was a lot more affordable than it would be for a ftb now.0
