I wouldnt have known about questioning the council about Council Tax Banding except for reading something on here but i have just got my amount in that i have to pay and i am gob smacked to say the least for my 2 bed flat/appartment whatever you want to call it along with my single persons discount comes in at 115.00 per month thats not even including the management fee of 90.00. Has anybody queried this and got a result..Bearing in mind the 3 bedroom stone cottage (semi detatched) is £118.00 per month on the same development of 10 homes in total,,some how the figures just dont add up...thank you for any replies in advance.. I know it may well go on value but my mate who owns a 2 bed flat, same area and is £40k less only pays 70.00 per month,,it seems a very unfair method especially when his flat is bigger than mine although his isnt as modern

Not sure about the council tax banding issue but you need to separate the management fee issue. Martin has written a page on it, and there is also a specific thread about querying your council tax band and requesting a rebanding. Best to check there for further information."I've fallen down a hole" - said in best Monty Python voice-over.0

Is the article on Council Tax Banding. It gives instructions on how to work out your banding based on what you paid for the property.
Work it out and see if you're in the right band.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

My banding is a C, though my council are yet to write to me asking for payment, not sure if i need to register or not, sure they will catch up with me...
Did the Valuation check in my block, all the 1 beds are a B, and the 2 beds are a C, which seems a little unfair the 1 beds get cheaper rates, then I threw my value against the nationwide caluclator and compared against 1991, and i should be in band D, so i guess ill keep quiet.0 -
Hmm our rented house was apparently worth £44k in 1996 which is very much in band B. But we are C and so are the neighbours. What's the worst that can happen if we ask for reassessment? Going up a band I suppose but would anyone actually put a 1-bed house in band D?0

You need to contact them - if it can often be a yr or two later before the Council find out and issue a backdated bill.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
