Almost a nasty accident with shower tonight

14 year old daughter just been in shower tonight less than a minute after she came out, we hear aloud bang from upstairs. First I thought, she had dropped something on the laminate floor in her bedroom.
Wife rushed up stairs shouting "oh my God". I immediately ran upstairs to find the glass shower curtain had come off the wall smashed on the cast iron bath and glass (the type put in car windscreens) was all over the bathroom.
Thank god she had come out in time, a few minutes before and she could have been covered in soap and glass, I shudder to think how lucky we were particularly her.
Oh well after a new shower screen. Just got weekend planned already to lay a laminate floor in hallway and some wallpapering. We can count ourselves lucky

Blimey Poppycat, that was a close call. I'm pleased no one was hurt. You're going to have to be very thorough as you pick up the glass pieces.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j [/COLOR]:cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Too right Nile. Took most of the glass out fo the shower curtain frame any loose bits we put tape around the whole edge so that it wouldnt fall out. Sweeped the carpet with brush the hoovered up Hope I got it all, I cut myself a little bit even though its safety glass its still sharp. I guess we were lucky, phew

Safety glass doesnt usually break up...it mostly just cracks.
Are you sure it was safety glass ?? It wasn't one of those cheapo screens from b&q was it ??

Sounds nasty, do you know what caused the acccident?
One of my vivd childhood memories is of a large heavy mirror falling onto the washbasin when I was filling the family hot water bottles, very hot water, shards of porcelein (SP?) and mirror glass all over little me ( I was about 9).
Glad your daughter was OK:j0 -
The glass broke up into tiny fragments similar to car windscreens I could be wrong about saftey glass, mind you it hit a iron bath.
I think what happens is that it became loose over time and came out of the plastic mounts that you fasten into the wall. I am surprised even with that that it didnt hold in place as I had some thick mastic type tape to stop water getting through, through the orginal rubber seal.
Mind you the shower screen was pretty old about 8-9 years so I guess over time it got dislodged. I was actually going to replace the whole thing next year. As the bathroom is quite old I was going to get the bath (its huge) renameled and just replace the toliet and sink. Put some new tiles in and a new shower as old was is going slightly yellow, itw as an expensive model when we bought it.
It does make one think how lucky we are.0 -
We had our bath re-enameled.........and it's not good. Waste of money. Wished I'd replaced it now.Poppycat wrote:As the bathroom is quite old I was going to get the bath (its huge) renameled and just replace the toliet and sink.

They come along and spray it with this 'spray-enamel' stuff. About 12 coats I think.
It chips off after a while. We had it done 2 years ago and the bath looks abysmal now.
Any little knock or dent brings off more of the enamel.
We have a chrome shower head as part of the taps and this is the main culprit. The kids are always wafting it around.

Thanks for that Tom, I have heard of problems with that before. Did you use those kits for about a tenner or a firm do it? We have such a wonderful bath I hate to say goodbye to it as its about 8 ft in length, and must weigh a tonne. If I replaced it I couldnt have a cheapo plastic bath, yuk. I have heard those cheap B&Q baths are rubbish.0

Sounds like a lucky escape! A few months ago my daughter was at my parents house, threw the door open as she rushed into one of the rooms and it crashed into the TV which was on a wall mounted bracket. The TV was knocked off and ended up hanging a few inches above her head by the power cable!! A lucky escape for her, although the telly wasn't too well afterwards.0

We had a proffessional company come in and do it for us.Poppycat wrote:Thanks for that Tom, I have heard of problems with that before. Did you use those kits for about a tenner or a firm do it? It takes a couple of days to fully go hard as well. cost about £220.
They left us with a small bottle of touch up paint...I should have twigged then that we would have problems.
The touch up paint is not exactly the same colour either.
I'm going for a new metal bath next time.
