    Hi
    Avidemux will do it.

Use 'File > Open' to load the first avi file.
Then use 'File > Append' to attach the other avi files.
Then use 'File > Save' to create one long avi file.

Make sure that you have the Video tab set to 'Copy' and the Audio tab set to 'Copy' and the Format tab set to 'AVI'.

Avidemux is a free open-source program.
You can download it from here:-http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/

If you didn't want to download any software, you could use Windows Movie Maker (though their movies publish in WMV format).

Just go to Start > All Programs > Windows Movie Maker

Then "drag and drop" your AVI files into the Movie Maker window, and add each of them to the timeline.

Then click File, and "Publish Movie".

More complicated than the other suggestions, but with no need for extra software

or you could go into a command prompt, get to the directory that has your files in and type
    copy/b file1.avi+file2.avi > bigfile.avi
You need to /b to tell copy it's a binary file

Does the file still play if you do that ?

I wouldn't imagine it'd play in any player that's strict.

It'll also do interesting stuff if the avis aren't identical in structure, I'd imagine.

Avimux-gui is about as simple as you'll get for joining avi files. Drag and drop. vdub/nandub are more flexible, but not exactly intuitive, and overkill for just joining a few files.

I will have a look at that as I only ever join files.

Yes, copy doesn't touch the original file. I may have mislead you a bit I assumed that the two files were split from one original (to fit with file sharing sites) and you wanted to rejoin them.

You can also make the resulting file an AVI but the file size us HUGE!!!! I might try virtualdub as was looking for software to do exactly this. Anybody know if there is any large increase in overall file size for the combined file
