Council Tenancy

Evening all
My daughter had to move from her last home because the landlord was selling up. Because she was married and had a young child she was given a council house but it was on a temporary tenancy agreement. She has been there for 4 years now and has had another child. She would like to buy the house but has been told she cannot because she is still on a temporary tenancy.
Does anyone know anything about these things. How long does a temporary tenancy run? Is there any way around it so she can get on the housing ladder? My son in law only earns about £250 - £300 per week so this is probably their only chance to own a home.
Regards
Pat

Sorry you have had no reply. I've looked on google and it seems that a temporary tenancy is when the council are obliged to house someone who has become homeless, but don't qualify for a permanent tenancy. Possibly because they don't have enough points to be a priority - I'm not sure
.
Surely the easiest thing to do would be to ask them to clarify your daughter's position.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Here's something about temporary tenancies:

If I were her I'd stay and see if I got housed permanently. Then if it was OK I'd not buy it. I'd enjoy the cheap rent, life tenure, maintenance free house provided and use my money for more interesting things than keeping a roof over my head!
Sometimes these temporary tenancies might belong to private landlords who have rented the house for X years to the Council. They don't belong to the Council at all.0
