Scottish Power - angry!
Back in early march, I switched gas+elec suppliers from scottish power to EDF energy. The supply switched, and the gas has been activated. They are disputing the elec reading still 2 months on. I don't see why they they are disputing, they obviously accepted my reading because they sent me a final bill. I gave this same reading to both EDF and scottish power, and i've been told by EDF the reading SP are giving as the final one is significantly higher.
This doesn't suprise me as whenever i've had an estimated bill from SP it's been well off, they're just a bunch of con artists. Is there anything I can do in this situation? I don't want to leave this unresolved as eventually when it gets sorted i'm going to be stung for a monumental bill.
Any advice appreciated!

Are you sure that the "final bill" that SP sent you is actualy a final bill?
The implication is obviously that SP think that the reading you gave them was too low, either by mistake or intentionally!! - assuming EDF are cheaper, a low reading would be to your advantage.
You should insist that SP get the meter read asap by a meter reader. They can then see if your meter reading of early March was feasible.
Or is it possible that SP have read your meter after early March? - do you have an outside meter?0 -
The problem is I gave the meter reading to EDF when I signed up and exactly the same reading to SP on the same day. I'm not sure if they estimated forward to the date the supply switched over, but the reading they're giving is more than the original reading I gave to both. I'll call and ask them to come and read the meter, perhaps they can work back and we can get this sorted finally.
The last bill I received actually said "Final Bill" on it, I wish I had kept it now I threw it away having been so glad to be shot of them.0 -
You can always ask for a copybill from SP most large companies these days keep copies of all communications sent out.
An esitmation routine is only as good as the data that it has behind the scenes. I could go into a very long and complex description of how they work but in the main it is in the interests of both the customer and the company for it to be as accurate as possible. If you found it was well off then it is more than likely it did not have enough suitable data on which to generate an accurate estimate and therefore resorted to one of the less accuate methodsThis doesn't suprise me as whenever i've had an estimated bill from SP it's been well off, they're just a bunch of con artists
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
Well I finally got this sorted today! I called EDF and stayed on the line while their change of supplier dept called SP to find out about this reading. The reading SP were giving as the final read was originally 1000 units higher than the reading I paid my final bill for. They have settled on the reading from the final bill at last (why they didn't before and kept trying to get extra cash is beyond me). Let this be a lesson, don't touch Scottish Power with a barge pole, they'll try and take you for every penny!
I religiously give accurate readings once per month to try and avoid these things but SP's estimates were still miles out. Hooray for other suppliersIvanOpinion wrote: »An esitmation routine is only as good as the data that it has behind the scenes.
