Does this look okay?

I am looking for a memory foam mattress (a nice thick one ) and found this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320252558365 .

Its 25 cms thick
with 7 cm of high density memory foam.

I think it looks okay.

But what do I know

So any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

(p.s I dont know how to do the cool linky thing)

yeah they had a 20 cm for 139£ I think but my MIL likes thick mattresses and wants a 25cm one.

What company did you use and was / is your mattress any good?

the memory foam on this is 3 inches, so you could just get a 3inch topper?
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

To be honest I'd be very suspicious of any double memory foam mattress for that price. There are quite a few low quality cheap imports from China about. There are also a few fake memory foam mattresses on ebay.

It simply wouldn't be economical for a retailer to sell at those prices.

Also 3" of memory foam is too deep. It should be no less than 2" and no more than 2.5", otherwise you will sink into it and may become too hot.

If they are bankrupt stock then they should be ok.

I'm afraid it isn't as simple as that. You can't just put a topper on any old mattress and expect it to be anywhere near as good as a mattress that has gone through loads of development and testing to reach the right combination.

    Thanks for the info.

I am not sure if it is bankrupt stock, they have a webpage as they also sell outside of ebay but they dont have that particular one on their shop website.

I have e-mailed them asking for an actual picture of the mattress, as for the thickness does ½ inch really make that much of a difference! (lol)

Yes 1/2" can make a huge difference, I personally recommend 2".

You actually sink into memory foam more or less the complete depth. If you imagine lying on 2" of very soft sand so that it moulded to your body. The 2" would be enough to follow all your contours, and to keep your whole body perfectly supported. If while you were still lying there another inch of sand was added then all it would do would be to start to bury you in the sand, but wouldn't give you any more support because you are already supported. It would however mean that up to half of your surface area could be in contact with the memory foam preventing your bodys own cooling system working effectively. This may feel ok on a very cold winter night, but were you would normally regulate how warm you are in bed by changing quilts, blankets etc according to seasons, you don't really want to keep changing your mattress do you?
