Dishwasher advice

Options
We've just got a dishwasher off our local freecycle site (yippee!). Although in good working order, it hasn't been used in about four months, so it's a bit smelly. Any ideas what to 'run through' it with? We're not big on using anything too chemically though.Any advice greatly appreciated.....

Dump some vinegar in the bottom of the machine and put it on its hottest wash cycle. Make sure you have cleaned out all the filters first though, just to make sure it's really clean. Any vinegar will do - I reckon 1/2 a cup will be ample. That should clean it well. If it's still smelly after that, then lemon juice will make it smell nice.

And if that doesn't work - though it should - if you look in the Appliances section of the MEGA Index sticky at the top of the forum listing you'll find a couple of threads that have a few more suggestions.

Chemically or not nothing will work better than a good splosh of bleach. The smell is a good sign that there is bacteria present and millions of germs need to die. You are going to eat of those plates after all. My dishy is often left resting for weeks at a time when I'm at the coast and I always give it a bleach wash through when I get back to make sure that there are no nasties loafing around in the filters.
