A warning about spraying fences!

I would just like to issue a warning to anyone considering using the sprayers for spray painting fences. If you are going to use one, I urge you to be very careful.

One of my tenants has contacted me to say that the neighbour has just spray painted their fence and has managed to spray paint all over the decking in the tenants garden. I haven't seen the damage yet  My own neighbours also spray painted their fences and managed to spray paint my white upvc back door and all the upvc windows and pation doors at the back of my house. I also saw a thread about it a while a ago where the OP not only had their house spray painted by a neighbour but their car as well.

Sprayers seem like a quick and easy way of painting fences but even the slightest wind can cause the paint to carry and the wind will carry it a long way in my experience. You might then find you have very annoyed neighbours and a possible insurance claim on your hands or at best you have spray painted your own house! And watch out for neighbours with washing pegged out on the line

I really would urge caution as it can cause a lot of damage. It took me hours to get it off my windows and doors.

I know of two people who have tried these and been disappointed. Both have taken them back for a refund. The main problems seem to be constantly clogging up and the stuff goes everywhere. My mates neighbour managed to turn all his concrete path green.

i can vouch for the fact that it goes everywhere and NOT to use it when there is any slight breeze at all! When quickly nipping into Sainsbury's to get some lunch for us hard workers when we were erecting our new fence, the till woman asked me if I had a disease! LOL - good job it was just paint, or I would have been making a serious complaint ;)

we have got the ronseal one, and its ok not brilliant, and it doesnt do exactly what it says on the tin!!

we have the lift out panels, so we picked the warmest breeze free day last year slid the panels out and laid them in the middle of the lawn. then went about spraying, nothing else got covered apart from the grass which after a cut was fine!!

It's funny, not as easy as the adverts make it.

It's probably all in the application, like anything else.

I have the cuprinol one, which I used to do a 5x7 shed, 8 fence panels and a large area of decking. I found it to be excellent, and didn't manage to paint anything I hadn't intended to.

The label on the back says to hold 6" away, if the canister is properly pressurised you should get quite a powerful spray with only a little bit of splash back. I found that when you get further away, it isn't powerful enough to hit the surface and ends up being a fine mist which gets caught in the wind.
