Nope multiple identities are allowed on ebay, in one of their old selling tutorials ebay even suggested it.

Well I never! Thanks for that - I had no idea. So if you create another ID with all the same details, it doesn't cry foul? I thought I read on here about having to have different email addresses, which sounded to me like getting round an attempt by eBay to prevent it. After all, I don't see why two IDs can't have the same email address so long as all communication from eBay makes it clear which ID they are referring to.

No, unfortunately you need a different email address and bank details for each id. A 'fixed' email address (sorry I can't think of the correct terminology) ie a 'freeserve' or 'Tiscali' address can be used without a debit/credit card being used, but if you use a non fixed email like hotmail then you need to register a different bank card for each account. You can't use the same email address, or the same bank card more than once.

So all my id's have completely different email addresses and bank details, all my fees are paid to ebay on different credit cards.

All the id's can however be linked into one paypal account, so you can have all your inward and outwards payments in the same account, but I actually have more than one paypal account as well, again each with a different email address and bank details.

I always use the correct personal details though as I don't want to lose any of my id's due to incorrect contact information.

It sounds like you'll have to start the buyer protection claim, then. If you can convince ebay about the condition of the outfit, you should get £6 back, but perhaps more importantly the seller will get a strike put on their account, which will set them on their way to losing it. Be sure to mention the seller's attitude when you leave your feedback.

Ebay will be well aware of her attitude as i am making sure contact is only though ebay ask seller a question and the dispute console.

I think the reason why the item has pink stains is that is is a sort of pvc , it was wrapped in pink tissue paper and sent in a plastic bag. The item has "sweated" so to speak and the dye has run. I did comment it was her packaging that had caused it.

I was thinking more about you mentioning it in the feedback you leave, so that other potential buyers know that not only did this person ruin the item by using non-colourfast packaging, but they couldn't give a damn now they have their money.

A little tip I recently picked up is that you can add a follow-up comment to the feedback you leave (here). That gives you double the space to really stick the knife in.
  • Have you politely mentioned to the seller that you will have no alternative but to report them to trading standards?

Even second hand items are covered by their laws.

Trading standards are not interested in private deals between individuals which this is deemed to be, there was no indication that the seller was trading as a business selling second hand goods, and being an ebay seller doesn't automatically make you a business. The same would apply if you bought something at a car boot sale from your neighbour.
