I go to my normal garage, don't know if he makes them up himself or gets them somewhere else the same day. I phoned him, he ordered it and I went to pick it up.

BUT you need your vehicle registration document and your driving licence showing the same address, so make sure you can find both of them!

Halfords, if your local independent parts place hasn't got a machine.

£20-£30/pair depending on style & design. Your pretty much limited in appearence these days & as Sue said, V5 & id needed.

Don't ignore the parking fines, speeding tickets, demands for payment for fuel stolen in drive offs from the petrol station, that'll come your way now the old plates are on some naughty persons car!!

at my local car part shop think it was 15 per plate - while you wait. mine fell off due to the terrible sticky pads they use now. what was wrong with a screw.

and the congestion charge fines.....keep the police incident no very safe, and get lots of copies
  • step 1- report to the police
step 2- local car accessory store or motor factor (look them up in the phone book and get prices)

    a couple of notes:
the eu style ones are only really needed if you take the car abroad.
make sure you have relevant documents with you when you go for them

i think i paid £12 for my front one when it was damaged in an accident.

best to stick to plain designs- although some places let you have text underneath for free and it is legal- if my back one ever comes off i am having a slogan on mine :-)
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
BH is my best mate too, its ok :)

I trust BH even if he's from Manchester.. ;)

    Try:

    https://www.fancyplates.com

Choose the standard UK road legal design - £7.50 each.
They come from Ireland so no ID or V5 needed (bit of a loophole).

A couple of problems using screw fixing...

You damage the seal between plate & backing, so water gets in & spoils appearence & makes it potentially MoT failure - look at some of the ones on not so older cars.

You'll be making holes in your car, which you've no need to do, unless you're VERRRRRRRRRY precise, fitting into existing locating points.

Adhesive pads will keep the plate away from the bodywork/bumper, so no rubbing/scratching of the paint, as the plate vibrates, when you drive along.

&, of course, pads make it MUCH easier for someone to steal the plates, without needing a screwdriver!!

I replaced mine and used some sticky pads that I got from halfords. 4 years later and they are still as secure as day one!

Don't forget to include p&p and VAT. That then comes out for a standard front\rear complete set to being £21.08.
