Disabled Student Allowance

Options
Hi there,
I received a disabled student allowance grant this year and wondered if I had to have another assessment to claim funds for the next year of my course. My needs haven't changed. Any ideas how it works please?

I'm pretty sure you won't need to re-apply, check your assessment form - mine has the duration of the degree and the figures quoted are 'per year', so it has covered me for 3 years. If your situation's a bit different though just get in touch with student support at your LEA as I believe they are the ones that fund it.

    Thanks smooser,
    That's really helpful.
  • I never had to be re-assessed during my undergraduate course, even when I changed university. As my needs gradually changed, my university disability officer (who was great - thanks Alice!!) was able to call up the LEA and get things added and changed as necessary.

If you have chance, talk to your university's disability staff and they should be able to help you as they will deal with these things all the time.

But at the end of the day, if nothing's changed, you shouldn't need to be re-assessed.

Thanks for that Rachel. I'll speak with them before the term ends.
    Best Wishes,

I'm glad you have asked that question. I did wonder the same myself.
