    a black screen comes up with safe mode in the corners but with a jumbled message - themn the indows startup loading settinngs etc - but then back to blue screen?

    Can you make out anything in the jummbled message?

    Also what did you do before the system restore?

    Have you added anything? like extra memory?
    Install any software?

    The Stop 0x00000050 error usually means there might be a problem with the memory, but it might be something installed that's fubar'ed up!
