Boiler Problem

Hello there,
I am having a slight problem with my (30 year old) boiler. The flame is not holding on after I light it. I know that there is a little coil which needs to be heated up by the initial flame before the boiler can go on. I have been cleaning this coil for several months and now I think that it has given way and needs replacing. Just wondering if anyone can tell me what this coil is called. As far as I remember, it is called the cut off "something".
I wouldn't attempt repairing myself, but would be handy to know what it is, before I call an engineer to come and repair it for me.
Thank you

The part that you refer to is a thermocouple. When heated by the pilot flame it generates a small voltage which allows the gas valve to open. Quite easy to replace yourself if you can source the necessary part. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
