How to connect portable DVD player to TV?

I have a proline DVDP706W portable DVD player and want to be able to connect it to watch the DVD directly on TV.
It has a 'video out' coloured yellow, and I have loads of different cables at home that appear to fit but, when I hook them up to the TV, nothing happens, even though the DVD is running and appears on the portable screen.
The thing is, on my TV, I seem to have 3 different sets of coloured places, red yellow & white, and 2 other sets.
Please could someone set me in the right direction of what lead I actually need and where it goes on the TV (a picture would be really good)!
Thank you

You can use RCA cables that came with the unit. Connect Line Out from your DVD player to Line In on your TV.
Make sure that Line In on your TV is set to On.0 -
The colour coding for the RCA connectors is
Video: Yellow,
Sound Left: Red, Sound Right: White.( maybe the other way round but what the heck!)
The TV won't switch automatically when you playback you DVD as it would with a Scart so as the above poster says switdh the TV to the appropriate AV channel.
Also some portable DVD players use the same type of mini jack for input as well as output, so make sure you are using the correct connector. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
What make/model is your TV?
You may have to tune in telly to DVD or select AV channel, mine has four = AV1 is set to digital, AV2 is set to DVD and AV3 is set to Sky."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Audio, Video & AV3, which ones do I use?"Hope for the Best

You need three cables, as I said before Yellow is video, red and white are audio.
These should be grouped together on your TV, possibly on the front or the side. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Thanks, all the cables I seem to have have either 2 outputs, whereas my DVD player only has 1, and the cables I have that only have 1 output, only seem to have 2 cables attached, if that makes sense, think I'll to pay a visit to comet for some guidance!"Hope for the Best

sounds like you need something like this:
the black end into your port dvd, the yellow (video) red (audio) white (audio) into the tv.0 -
You probably have a small yellow hole and a hole for audio (headphones)
You should have a cable with Yellow ends
and
A cable with a headphone jack at both ends.
Check your TV to see if it has Audio in (Or Line in) socket that looks like a headphone socket.
Plug the yellow ones in to their sockets
and the headphones socket to the Audio in (Line in) socket on your TV
change to the AV channel and press play..Laters

Thanks all,
Found 2 cables and a scart type thingy, plugged all 3 colours into scart thingy and the other 2 ends into line out & headphone socket on dvd player, all works, except, the sound is rubbish on the TV, unless I half pull out the headphone socket and then its ok!
Thanks"Hope for the Best
