Thomas Exchange Global - Reviews?

Hi,

Looking to get some travel money for the US.

TEG seem to have a very good rate and I want to order the money online.

I'm just a bit concerned that they want a Bank Transfer.

I dont mind, as long as I know they arnt going to run away with the money.

I know they have two branches in London, but has anyone here ordered over the net and had any issues?

Thanks

You could have both searched and got answers to this question, and also the alternative of doing a price match through Travelex.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I did actually trawl through several threads looking for an answer to this, and performed a forum search using the phrase Thomas Exchange Global - I think that if the answer to our question was there, my searches would have found it! Feel free to point me in the right direction if I am mistaken.

Also, we weren't asking who offers a price match service, we were specifically asking for comments in relation to Thomas Exchange Global. I don't have the option of using the Travelex price match as the airport I am flying from does not offer the service.

You clearly didn't search very far ... plenty of people that have used them here.

  • We have recently purchased dollar travellers cheques with Thomas Exchange Global via their internet postal service. Can honestly say, the service was excellent. I ordered them online on Tuesday, had an email the same day confirming my order and what identification I needed to provide. On Thursday we were telephoned by their customer service team and given the postal tracking number, and on Friday morning they arrived at our home.

Thomas Exchange Global provided the best exchange rate I could find anywhere and I would use them again. Recommended without reservation.

    Hi All!

Sadly i cannot recommend this company even despite "supposedly" offering the best rate!! ...Here is my story (sorry its so long!!)...

I have had a very hard time with this company. Ordered £1200 worth of Euros and Swiss Francs on Monday.

When Wednesday arrived i was very concerned that i had had no contact at all from TEG. Despite same a same day money transfer they claimed the money was not in their account, my bank confirmed the money had left my account & RBS (their bank) confirmed that the transaction should have gone in to TEG's account same day.. TEG advised me to wait until tomorrow as same day transfers can take 3 days which is nonsense as confirmed by my bank. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and awaited their promised phone call with my royal mail confirmation number.. The call never came.

At this point i was very very worried about my money and i felt my holiday was in jeopardy so once again i called ...

I was again told the money was not in their account, i was foolish because i allowed myself to be fobbed off by the man on the other end of the phone AGAIN, shortly after i had taken all i could and my blood was boiling so i called them back, i spoke (probably more like shouting at this point) to another person, i don’t know if my temper did the trick or maybe it was when i said the words financial ombudsman but he said the money had cleared! I was so relieved! He promised that i would receive a tracking number via email.. And guess what, Friday afternoon and still no confirmation number.

I began typing an email to the company director at this point as i was sick with worry, as i was typing guess what! the postie came with my money!! phew!!

...But the story didn’t end there... i opened my letter and they had not given me the advertised rate, despite me ticking the box on the website to stick with the current rate they had given me todays much lower rate. Not only did i receive 15 Euros less than advertised but they sent me ALL the money in 200 Euro notes!! ...so now i need to get it all changed before my hol.. more time off work! I just don’t have any energy left to chase 15 Euros so i am just going to take it as a lesson learned - Go with a reputable company, its worth a few quid less, that is if they honor the advertised rate!!!!

In summary the people i spoke to at TEG where very rude (i found it VERY difficult to understand there accents which didn't help matters) They would interrupt me regularly when i was talking and one person was clearly huffing and puffing when i was explaining my concerns ..despite me being mostly calm about my missing £1200!! After missing half a days work (and money - I'm self employed) to make phone calls to my bank, their bank (which they should have done but refused to) i feel like i have aged 20 years, really need this holiday now!!

TEG don’t see you as a valued customer, they don’t respect what all that hard earned money means to you, they see you as a way to make a fast buck, nothing more. There was NO communication from them, no reassurance and no customer service.
If you want any sort of peace of mind when changing your hard-earned i suggest you steer clear of these currency cowboys!

    Many thanks!
    Happy holidays

Oh, and as for clever clogs here:

I was planning on using Thomas Exchange global as they are top on the new maximiser tool - but then I found I have to make a bank transfer, & provide scans of my passport & utility bills. Having seen bad feedback here, I now think I'll forget the few pound saving & go with Currency Express (the next best for the currencies I need - & somewhere I've actually heard of, so feel more secure about.)
I always used to use Travelex, order on-line then pick up at Manchester airport - but now Man airport seem to have taken over all the currency exchange bureaux in a bid to make even more money........

Marks & Spencer offer excellent rates and no commission if a minimum amount is ordered. It is delivered to your door for free. Last time I bought currency (Euro's) the minimum was £500. I used my M&S "And More" credit card too which means they don't present a statement for a few weeks.
This is the only thing I use that card for and my daughter does the same.
    It's excellent.
  • After finding TEG had the best rate available I searched online for some reviews and found this thread. I was a bit concerned about the review above, but still went ahead and ordered $8600 using their online postal service. I placed the order Thursday lunch time whilst at work. I then scanned my documents and sent them via email, and sent the money via BACS on Thursday evening. I received a confirmation phone call Friday midday to confirm they had recieved the money and my $$ were being sent out that day, I then received a second call to confirm the package tracking numbers. The money was delivered to me midday Saturday. Fantastic service and excellent rate, will definitely use again!

    don't use Thomas Exchange!
I used them to send money to Dubrovnik to pay for a holiday
they took details of my recipient, had my money, sent it incorrectly and when the bank that end sent it back, taking a fee for that, returned what was left of the £102.50, just £41
so lost £61 because of their mistake
no apology, rude staff, didn't reply to e-mails
    just incompetent
couldn't care less I was £61 out of pocket, and even the Observer money advice feature writer who contacted them on my behalf couldn't get them to pay up
avoid using them or they will rip you off
