Another bathroom quote

We are looking to have our bathroom gutted and redone. It's about 2m x 1.7m and contains bath/shower over bath, pedestal basin and toilet. All walls are tiled. It also has a standard radiator on the central heating circuit. The shower is a white power shower on the wall.
A summary of the work we need doing is:
Remove all tiles and skim walls and ceiling
Toilet to stay in current position
Sink pipework to be buried in wall and hang a wall mounted basin
Bath to stay in current position but rotate by 180 degrees
Install concealed thrermostatic shower with 3-way diverter. 1 to main shower, 1 to hand rinser and the other to bath filler.
Install shower pump to pump hot to bath/shower and basin, cold to bath/shower
Install towel radiator to be fed from boiler and electric supply (spur from RCD protected circuit has already been run to the bathroom by our electrician).
Tile all walls and floor.
We are supplying everything bar stuff like pipes etc. so the quotes are labour only.
The best quote we have had is:
To remove existing bath suite.
To first fix pipe work within walls for the basin and shower valve.
To make good walls and to skim walls and ceiling.
To supply and install new in line extractor fan.
To install only shower pump and alter pipe work to suit pumping the hot water to the basin and bath/shower and cold only to the bath/shower.
To alter mains water supply to feed WC and cold to basin.
To install bath.
To fully tile walls and floor.
To second fix basin, WC, shower, towel rail and bath panel.
The supplies to the new towel rail will be altered from the heating on to the primary supplies to that the towel rail will work either when the heating or hot water is on.
Price £2900 + VAT. I was very impressed with him, he has been doing this work for a long time and comes armed with references etc. He also lives 1/2 mile away.
We had another quote of £3000 + VAT so this seems to be the going rate where we are which is Surrey.
Just wondered what others thought.

Cant you remove the old bathroom suite yourself? I removed my GF suite, I found out were the mains water was shut off, bought a couple of spanners (expandable) undone it all and ripped it out. I then bought some plumbing stops for the ends of the pipes, and switched back on the water.
Did leave toilet plumbed in till I knew when the fitter was coming.
If your not handy in anyway then dont attempt it!!!!"Instead of saying someone was avaricious I'd say they were bloody greedy"0 -

I could remove the old suite no problems. Everything is on isolation valves so I wouldn't even need to switch off the water. Basically it's our only bathroom so we will be moving out whilst it is done and frankly, I figured ripping out the old suite is such a small part of the job I might as well let the plumber do it as it wouldn't save me much.0 -
Fair enough but money was tight at the time so only cost about £450 the lot (£100 fitting fee, m8s rates etc) £299 suite, it was to replace old grey suite with spanking white one when selling, got cheap black and white tiles, and made slate floor tiles out of roof tiles. Looked worth well more than £450. If I was going to invest thousands though I would let someone else do it:beer:"Instead of saying someone was avaricious I'd say they were bloody greedy"0

seems a little high priced to me
we have.are just having a new bathroom installed
the quote is as below
fit bath/toilet/basin/overbath shower
remove all old items above
remove tiles
remove existing floor (vinyl tiles)
refit floor (vinyl roll)
re-tile 3 of the 4 walls
replace bathroom radiator
fit shower screen etc
cost £1175
had bathroom skimmed and ceiling leveled to get rid of artex, cost £250
cost of bath/toliet/basin/thermostatic mixer shower/bath panel/taps/wastes etc £510 (no mark up on trade prices and he gets a deal at the suppliers)
cost of vinyl floor approx £100 (cushioned quite thick seems good quality)
live in nottingham so guess prices are a little lower
Didnt need to move out, have not been left without water for any long periods and all but one night had access to bath, lastnight had to use bucket to flush toilet but otherwise not too much inconvenience0
