British Gas Click Energy Customers - Check Your Tariff !

I signed up to dual fuel Click Energy 4 with British Gas online in January and received confirmation of this by e-mail and snail mail. The change of supplier went through in February and on Saturday the first gas bill dropped through my letterbox, which was a little surprising considering this tariff has paperless billing.

I phoned BG to check I was on the correct tariff (now changed to Click Energy 5) as there is nothing on the bill to indicate the tariff. I was reassured that everything was fine and that I had received the bill through the post because they always send the first bill out that way. I asked the person I was speaking to to check again that my tariff was correct which he did just as I had found the page online with the unit prices on. I then asked why I was being charged standard tariff prices and he immediately apologised and said it had not been set up correctly and he would get my account sorted out and the bill reissued. At this point I asked him to check my electricity was being charged at the correct tariff and was reassured that it was.

Then this morning my electricity bill dropped through the letterbox and you can guess the rest, although apparently the tariff had already been corrected from 18/5/08 (the first day of the next billing period), no doubt by the person who assured me everything was ok on Saturday !

So, I would recommend that all Click Energy 5 customers check their bills correspond to what they believe they should be paying.

As I pointed out to both members of staff I spoke to at BG, there is little point in people shopping around for the best price only for them to be stuck on a more expensive tariff without their knowledge. This 'error' would have cost me £50.58 for this quarter alone had I not noticed and I suspect BG may have caught many more people out !

They sure have. I know of 3 people who switched to Click 4, on checking their first bills they discovered they had been placed on the standard tariff. One guy is still waiting for them to re-issue his first bill, it must be 3 weeks since they answered his email stating that they would correct the error.
  • I also signed up to BG click energy 4 in January and the changeover took effect in March (Still haven't received my £30 from MoneySupermarket yet).

The rates quoted on my first bill were much higher than those that I signed up for. On querying the rates I was told that they went up on 8th February. The new rates on my bill are not the new click energy 5 rates but increases to the click energy 4 rates, which is now dearer than click energy 5. To get the cheaper rate I have to change from click enery 4 to click energy 5. What a con.
