I tried to connect a new laptop to a Wi Fi network already setup in the house. It recognised the network but was unable to connect. A computer expert friend tried to configue it by taking the configuration from a working computer, I mean one that was connecting ok to the network. Unfortunately he didn't know there was this,- about:blank bug on the computer and it was transferred to the new laptop. Now the laptop receives data but doesn't send it and I can't connect to the web to remove this bug. I would be very grateful if any computer wizard out there could help.
Thanks

I don't think about:blank would stop you connecting to the internet. Have you run the network connection wizard on the laptop?Torgwen..........

We had about blank on ours. Hubbie fixed it but it was a nightmare. Will ask him to help out...May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

Okay, the aboutblank virus mostly just brought up constant pop ups. We could still log on. What bust the computer was the patch we got from ebay to try to fix it. It brought the whole system down and he had to wipe it and load everything on from scratch.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

I might be barking up the wrong tree but, is the about:blank a symptom of the CWShredder family of trojan/malware stuff.
Sorry if I am wrong but something is rattling in my head.0 -

my daughter had this about blank on her machine some time ago, i did post on here, she went to the Major Geeks site and downloaded a free programme and also used Startpage guard another free programme that someone on here recommended, that does what it said and keeps your home page safe.
She was having trouble logging into Yahoo mail etc.my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!0 -
The "AboutBlank" hijacker takes special removal procedures .
If you would like help, please register and post your HJT log at SpywareBeware.
Just title it AboutBlank for MrC and I'll help you out.
. Download HJT into its own folder, double click on the HJT.exe, scan and save log,
note or word pad will open and the log will be saved. Copy and paste that log into
your reply.
Download HJT.exe
