internet banks

i've tried to open accounts with 5 banks recently - 2 internet banks -icesave and kaupthing opened without any hassle and up and running weeks ago - 3 bricks and mortar banks - abbey, birmingham midshires and bradford and bingley still not open and nothing but hassle and delays - the icelandic banks may have supposed shaky credit ratings but their customer service is streets ahead of their uk high street counterparts - if anyone were going bust i wouldn't be surprised if it was the uk banks due to their incompetence and lousy customer service

Yes, that's been my experience too. I cannot believe how inefficient some of our British institutions' procedures are, particularly when it comes to proving your identity when opening a new account.

<cough> Abbey, which gets more complaints than all the others put together, is Spanish - part of the very large and successful Santander group, almost untouched by the credit crunch, and with a share price still close to all time highs. Giving rubbish service doesn't seem to affect their profits.
