If you are tempted to use a solvent (like acetone in nail varnish remover;) ) be very careful as it might make the problem worse on the plastic surfaces.

I would be tempted to try the cleaner/solvent on a cotton bud and dab in a tiny area to test first. If the tipp-ex is removed without destroying the surface you can move up to using a cloth/pad.

    cheers
  • well i tried nail varnish remover and white spirit and a brillo pad!!!!!!!!. also tried some meths which sort of dissolved but i think the only way will be to slowly scratch it off....
so word of aadvice don`t let your son write his name all over his telly with tippex!!!!!!!
  • Im sure when i was in school you could get a liquid that you put into your dried tipex bottle to make it runny and useable again, (some sort of a thinner ? ) if you bought some of that and dabbed onto the tv ? would it then wipe of, when wet into a cloth ? ?

My grandson did the same with his tv ,we tried everything too and scraping it off just made it look even worse...........so we left it,he's the only one who sees it anyway:D
  • I remember years ago when I was in biology class at school, somebody chucked a bottle of tippex across the room which burst all over someone's blazer. The teacher used chloroform to try and remove it... I doubt that would be recommended though!

  • I seem to remember that you can get Tippex thinners from stationery shops, from memory it smelled of trichloroethylene.

I've just checked my bottle of thinners. It states 'Contains Trichloroethane' with a warning saying inhaling contents can be fatal! So please be careful with this product, if you use it.;)

This isn't really relevant to you mollytrundel, as I have no idea how it would react with plastic, but for Tipp-Ex spills on fabric I use Eau Ecarlate 'Spotless' (multi-purpose dry clean stain remover)

I bought it in Tesco a couple of years ago and it has saved many a row in my house when kids come home with their school uniform covered in Tipp-Ex.........just dab it on and the tip-ex disappears.
