Loan Notes

I hope someone can help me.
I own some shares that have a compulsory buy issued on them. On my information pack there is a note about something called loan notes.
Should your shareholders be seeking loan notes instead of cash, which may benefit their capital gains posititons, then we would be prepared to supply this.
Can anyone explain what they are?
Thanks in advance.
