cast iron fireplace renovation - zebo/stovax

Hi,
I have just stripped several years worth of paint from an old cast iron fireplace. Satisfying now it's finished but hard work...!
It is slightly rusty in places so I'd like to polish it so it ends up with an even black matt-ish colour with a slight sheen.
My aunt recommended using Zebo - black grate polish. I can't find this anywhere but Googled to find it has changed to Stovax.
Just wondered if anyone would recommend this or suggest any other product.
Also has anyone seen Stovax for sale anywhere as I can only find it online at the mo.
Many thanks.

Hi,
I bought some stove black (which I believe is similar to Stovax) from Robert Dyas. It's basically graphite power in an oil based cream which you apply with a brush and then polish up. A small tube was more than enough to do our fireplace0 -
I still have half a tube of zebo - it's grate! *cough*
Use it on my cast iron pots, my mum's fireplace, cooker bits - great stuffIT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer

the hood part of my original fireplace was vracked and broken, I got it welded but had to strip the whole thing, so used a wire drill bit (type thing) and had it back to bare metal or as close as possible. Then used hammerite black heat paint (aerosol) and it looks fine and fits in with the rest of the jet matt black fire surround. Not sure the look you are after but this has made a very even finnish, i was impressed as i cant paint with aerosols for toffy.0
