A&L direct current acc questions

Hi
I currently have a joint current account (with my wife) with natwest earning no interest that weve had for 15 years. I have been looking at the A&L direct account that boast 8.5%APR for upto £2500.

I am a 40% tax payer but my wife is a 20% tax payer. Would it make sense to;

a) open this A&L account?
b) as a joint account or just my wifes name?
c) what are the benefits of either option a or b?
d) split the bills etc ie to keep the A&L ticking over at the £2500 mark whilst just keeping natwest open for purely bill/mortgage paying etc

hoping for some good advice, wooders;)
One day I'll be rich me tells ya.....rich.....hahaha:D
