Bathroom Refurb Quote

Hi

Got a quote for a bathroom refurb
I have a bathroom (2m x 1.7m) and separate WC (1.2mx0.8m)

I am buying materials and labour through a local high street retailer (not a chain). The materials cost was very attractive (received 25% off). Labour was £5800 (3 weeks work) which includes the whole job

- Gutting existing bathroom and toilet
- Fitting new suite (bath, shower, towel rail) and WC (all accessories taps etc)
- New ceiling plastered. Fitting of all lights
- Tiling top to bottom and floor of both rooms

Full guarantee and the cost is inclusive of VAT

Is this a fair quote?

Bear in mind I am looking for full project management of the job - one point of contact, full guarantee and will not be doing any work myself.

Thanks

Good afternoon::eek: My OH is during a similar job at the moment in Surrey (he is multitrade)...£3900 labour/materials and client is paying for tiles, brassware, sanitaryware and shower enclosure...in other words you need to get a couple more quotes preferably from plumbers recommended to you by sources you trust.

Thanks for your quick supply. I wish it were that easy but on previous jobs (recommended) we have not had a good experience so we decided to go to a local independent store in the area.

They have a showroom etc and have done jobs locally. I am confident the work will be of good standard.

Is your OH including VAT within this quote of £3900?

    Thanks

Hi...£3900 is the price. Keep in mind you are paying a significant markup on the labour with your quote. Does the shop subcontract the work? As I said earlier get more quotes.

Seems a bit expensive to me, I'd get some other quotes. I've a similar sized bathroom and had exactly the same done, and I'm paying 3k. That wasnt the cheapest quote either, i paid a little more for references and piece of mind

I think its OTT tbh. I think somewhere in the region of 3500-4000k should be about right.

Thanks for the replies. Decided to make it part of a larger job so hopefuly will be cheaper
  • I can't believe what I'm reading about quotes here.

I had a kitchen and utility room refurbished last year at a cost of £13,500 and have just had a quote for my bathroom at £8,000 - (nothing fancy)!

Seeing some of the prices others have been quoted I reckon I better shop around!!

to start this off - i am not touting for business!

to compare this though - i am nearly finished on a bathroom refit.

rip out bathroom, re board, plaster and refit including new shower, tile.

    parts and labour£3150.

I would definately recommend you get other quotes.

As has already been stated you are better to go with small recommended traders you will get work much cheaper this way, as someone has already said there is a large mark up on labour and high street stores often use sub contractors anyway.
