Wanted travel insurance to cover a 6 month period any ideas

Hi
I have been searching on various sites to find travel insurance to New Zealand, for just over 6 months (ie 6 months 3 days). When I go to confused.com for example, it tells me that annual cover is the best price for me.

But click through to one of the deals it lists, and the cover is only 31 days a trip, or else pay a bit more to extend this to 60 days. But there seems to be no way of extending it beyond 60 days.

So does anyone know of an insurer who does insurance for a continuous period of 6 months?

I mean there must be one out there, what about all these people who take gap years, they must be insured somewhere!!!

Hope someone can help

Hi ... I hope a member who has arranged this type of cover comes along, because I can't advise on who may be best or cheapest etc .... but ... this type of cover is commonly called "long stay" travel insurance, and as you suggest is quite commonly available.

Google on that (or re-visit the sites you have been to) - and you will find what you are looking for - but I would prefer someone who has arranged it to offer more specific advice - but hope this helps a bit.

    thanks for your replies

unfortunately annual cover, will cover you for multiple trips, but the longest single trip i have found covered under this policy is 60 days. So if you want what I want ie cover for 183 days all in one go, then annual cover doesn't do it.

Or I have yet to find one that does

Hi ... me again - same caveat as above - cannot comment on cost or quality..

But went to the very bottom of ML's advice, here:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/cheap-travel-insurance#single

I chose one (stress - at random) and clicked on it, - "long stay" was there, or rather here:

    Hope this helps ...

  • I am also currently looking for travel insurance to NZ only for 10 months.

Ive shopped round for hours weighing up pros and cons of each.

The best I found was www.direct-travel.co.uk

    hope this helps
  • Just went and had a look at Direct-Travel suggested by brightpinkgoldfish, and the cover looks good, but the gotcha is you have to be under 37.
