Feeding yourself on BOGOFS & other special offers

I'm intrigued to wonder how possible it would be to feed yourself for a week by merely buying BOGOFS, "two for the price of one" or other special offers from supermarkets. It would probably be a rather wierd diet but if everybody would post the BOGOFS we come across and which supermarket, it might provide an idea of what opportunities are available. (However, it would hardly be free food using up petrol to drive from one shop to another !)

could be interesting!
I don't often get BOGOF's as they mainly seem to be on branded or processed goods in our supermarkets.weaving through the chaos...0 -
Nice idea, but BOGOFs do seem to be, for the most part, convenience food, snacks and treats... still, if you hit the right shops I'm sure it would be do-able. Are you going to give it a go?TOP MONEYSAVING TIP
Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -
I don't think it would have you seen what most bogofs consist of? There was a Morrison's advert in one of the daily papers that showed you the receipt with all the products listed. I think there was Chicken tonight, Magnum icecreams, Dairylea triangles, pepperamis, something like Actimel.. seriously you couldn't have made a single "meal" out of the whole trolley. Not one. Possibly if you were allowed to use stuff you already had in the cupboard you could but most Bogofs seem to be the highly processed stuff that us wise OS'ers only indulge in occasionally. Special offers, a different story, if you include Any three for £10 meat items from Asda and their special offer veg rollbacks (this week an offer on new potatoes and stuff) lets face it they can call anything they like a "special offer" can't they? But purely on BOGOF's? Nah. I could have done when I was a student maybe

You often get tuna, seafood, bacon, rice, pasta. cheese.etc on BOGOF or special offer - its not hard to make a meal plus some baking potatos are often reduced.0

Current Morrisons bogofs according to their website... Pasta N Sauce, Penguins, Sliced turkey breast, Philadelphia (half price so technically a BOGOF) Magnums again, Youngs cheddar fish bake, Birds Eye seaside in batter and Birds eye seaside in breadcrumbs. I think they are little fishy shapes.. So yes you could do it for a week but there's nothing green there... that is purely BOGOFs of course and only this week.0

I buy BOGOFS when it is something I would usually buy. Otherwise I find that they are they are branded items which even as BOGOFs are more expensive than own brand or value.
The last branded BOGOF I bought was packs of flavoured rice to microwave. The rice grains looked like something Aggie and Kim uncover that have been laid by some insect! Yuk.0 -
I very rarely buy bogof any more though years ago would have brought things just because they were (and 9/10 times i never needed the item)
kinda going off topic here bogof kinda bugs me a little only the other day i was talking with my dad about them and how rarely bogof is on heathy stuff its nearly always processed, ready meals or just junk
you could possibly make a few meals out of currant bogof but i dont think they would be very interesting/healthyDFW nerd club number 039'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' :money: i will be debt free aug 2010

I've also found that BOGOFS and special offers don't really apply to OS staples. I guess OSers are the supermarkets nightmares really though as they must make so much more profit on the shiny packaged processed junk.
Looking at the last rfeceipt from my supermarket delivery only Hellmans Mayo and Danone Yoghurts were on offer on a shop of £70 +. So fo rme I couldn't live off BOGOFs and specials as they aren't on the things that we eat.
MrS's borthers family proably do live off them though as they only eat junk (and spend twice as much as we do per week)0 -
The problem with bogofs as has been said is that it tends to be stuff that is processed and full of nasty additives. If this challenge was a whoopsie challenge...now that might work?2022 Comp total (prizes + free spins): £494.81 #20 £12 a day Jan: £382.95/£372 #57 360 1p challenge: £17.70 £10 a day Feb: £571.09/£280 March: £311.96/£3100

I agree that BOGOFS tend to be branded convenience foods, so I don't buy unless I actually use them, which is not that often.
However I do go to the reduced section .. hence reduce-O-s or whoopsies.
These are generally salads, fruits, ready meals, or what-evers.
I freeze if possible. I tend to buy when the items are really reduced, not just 25p off. Some things I don't buy because we don't like them or because the product is really past it's best (beansprouts are YUK if not fresh).
Gluts of fruit are made into juice.
So I will generally spend £2 - £6 on reduced items and that will feed us for the best part of a week.
If there is nothing there I'll raid the freezer. We just had brisket from a frozen whoopsie £1.23 from £5.80. There is enough for sandwiches for tomorrow.0
