Morning
I bought some bagels yesterdy afternoon from our local Asda.
Husband went to have them for tea and found 3 of th3 4 were covered in mould on the undeside of the bagels.
They were best before today but we bought them reduced as we shopped at 3:45pm yesterday.
Will they take these back or is it not worth it?

Husband took them back yesterday.
Cashier wasn't going to take them back readily, so husband asked to speak to a Manager, whilst he was waiting, another customer came to the desk with exactly the same product and they were mouldy as well.
Both spoke to the manager, the terms 'environmental health officer' and 'I'm taking them to' were uttered by the lady and the attitude shifted.
They wouldn't give them their money back but got a £10 voucher in compensation, so more than happy.£2 Coin Savers Club (Christmas)- £86£1 Jar (Christmas)- £29Christmas Vouchers Saved: £1450 -
I used to work in a supermarket and usually on bakery products there is a 'sell-by' date and a 'use-by' date, with the sell-by being a couple of days before the use-by. So the bagels should still have been fit to eat even if purchased on the sell-by date.Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked0

There is something in the back of my mind that if baked stuff gets packed too early (still warm) then in some occasions this can cause them to go mouldy. I have had similar on a couple of occasions and did not have a problem when I have taken them back.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
If you buy food from anywhere that is still within date but mouldy at the time of purchase ( and it looks like this would the case here) contact your local Trading Standards dept. The Food Safety Act 1990 S8 says that it is an offence for any person to sells, offer to sell or advertise for human consumption any food that does not comply with the food safety requirements. Apart from the criminal offence, a customer can also pursue the shop under the Consumer Protection Act. This is why most shops will promptyly refund your money AND give you some kind of gift/voucher/extra product for this type of complaint.0
