Just felt like a glass of milk. Took the lid off and well, you can imagine the smell i was presented with. The milk also looks like yoghurt in parts.
But the use by date says the 28th.
I did shopping today and on purpose didn't buy any milk as i didn't need any. So should i take it back to the shop and complain or am i just being stupid about it being off 3 days before it should be???

NO take it back, I know we are only talking about a couple of quid but still. Milk these days is more expensive and doesnt last as long.
You bought milk, not yoghurt.99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500 -
Thats what i was thinking and best of all it was fine at 9:30am this morning as i had cereal for breakfast.
Will take it into the store tomorrow and complain....Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Take it back anytime up until 28th, there should be no questions asked. I took back some seriously stinking salad to Tesco and they happily gave me my money back. I did quite well that day, especially as it was my daughter's salad and she didn't want to take it back. I got the £2, she even had the cheek to ask for the money (it was just before payday), but I said no chance! That £2 was my profit.............................(how sad is that? I was so pleased!)0

Hi Denbo Thats fraud - that is. You made a profit, give it back...
Re the milk I would have thrown it way and you had it for breakfast too!!!0 -
The best before date on the lid relates to the unopened milk kept in ideal cool conditions.
If you keep the door of your fridge swinging about in the breeze...
If you leave the milk out while you eat...
If you don't know what the temperature of your fridge is..
...then the best before date is a mythical magical date.
This is without the supermarket doing whatever they can to warm the milk up too.
Once opened for a few days use your nose and sniff the milk.
You can tell when its on the turn and buy more.
Or just buy every few days and drink what's left up.
Milk goes off and its not always somebody else's fault.0 -
I had it for breakfast on my cereal because yesterday at 9:30am is was totally fine, no smell, no looking like yoghurt, so i used it and it tasted completely fine, obviously.
Come 11pm last night and it had changed dramatically to stinking and looking like yoghurt in parts.
Sorry unrich but i haven't done any of things you mentioned. I even checked my fridge temp to make sure it wasn't my fault and checked that other food hadn't been affected, it was all fine.
If the milk was off 1 day before it should be, i wouldn't be annoyed. But as it went off 3 days before it should of done and changed so quickly in 13.5 hours after i used it on my cereal, then to me thats clearly not acceptable.
When you buy things from the supermarket at a reduced price cos its near its used by date, you know to use it up quick. When i purchased my milk in advance and it had the date of the 28th, im not going to rush and use it thinking this might go off soon.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Well success anyway, they gave me another milk without any fuss...Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160

I thought milk had use by dates - different thing in practical terms and legally compared to best before.
I agree it relates to ideal conditions but unopened milk we assume kept without temperature abuse should be fine up til the Use by Date.
" 5. Immediately following regulation 6 there shall be inserted the following regulation:--
(a) the words "use by" followed by the date up to and including which the milk, if properly stored, is recommended for use, and
-
(b) any storage conditions which need to be observed.
(3) The date up to and including which milk required to bear a "use by" date is recommended for use may appear separately from the words "use by", provided that those words are followed by a reference to the place where that date appears." ."Baby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation which aims to save lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.0
