Skipton House Insurance - Too High

I have amortgage with yhe skipton which the house insurance was tied in for a min of two years.
I pay approx £400 per year on full house insurance(3 bed semi).

Recently, our Philips tv packed up. It cost us approx £700 about 5 years ago as it came with a mahogony base unit. Our insurance offered to replace tv with a similar model which on the net costs £185 !!!!!!!!!

MY QUESTION IS.... SHOULD I SHOP AROUND FOR A BETTER QUOTE OR SHALL I GET A NEW TV FROM THEM.
IF I CLAIM WILL THEY TIE ME IN WITH THE POLICY FOR ANOTHER YEAR WHICH REALLY I DON`T WANT TO....

MANY THANKS
PAUL

    Hi Paul,
If you haven't already done so why not read THIS THREAD and martin's article. You could probably beat £400 for buildings & contents quite easily unless you live on a flood risk/high crime type area. Halifax seem to come up most of the time with best quotes.

Can't quite figure out why insurers will replace you tele if it simply "packed up"? Most cover accidental damage at an extra cost to standard contents insurance and, these days, most seem to replace rather than pay out original cost. Point being if you're getting the same TV [only brand new with warranty] they are replacing new for old, + keeping down costs and helping prevent fraud.

    BoL.
