In all Fairness I think gingerdad was off with the Fairies then
maybe the rates...........0 -
backbiter, the poll tax had concessions for those on low wages, all that is needed is to re vamp it a little so there are tiers based on your level of income.0

why does there always have to have tiers based on level of income????! I'm sick of working hard and earning money to then have to pay more to level out the playing field again?? why don't we all just have one set wage for everyone in the country regardless of the work you do or effort you make
grr - rant over0 -

At the end of the day every one usees the same services.... but which were i live is very little service for a lot of council tax... and if you have lots of adults or people in the house then you should pay more... no why should some one pay more for the same service? The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -

Well put it this way whatever we have we will always be overcharged
I mean its a government thing afterall, fairness by them, not likely.0 -
We allow it to happen.....and made to feel guilty if we don't want to support the poor and deserving. I'm all for helping people to help themselves!! Sorry totally OT now
So, Wales what are your LA's going to do with all this newly generated revenue???! Spend it wisely or waste it quickly!!!!0 -
I can't see why they have to increase bills due to revaluation. Why can't they simply adjust the bands to the new values, so a house currently in Band C, for example, will still be in Band C.0

People always go on about council tax assuming it just pays for your bin collection. It also pays for social services, local policing, local education authorities, most roads in a given locality etc etc.
Lots of people seem to think, "well my tax has gone up 59% but my bin only gets taken once a week the same as before". Well it's not all about you. That increase is paying for better services for other people, such as better mental health provision etc. Should these people pay for the services they use alone?
so that rules out a tax based on usage.
What about a local income tax?
well what if you're in a poor area? I'm from the northeast and it's pretty obvious that tax collections in that area would be a lot lower than from where I live now (southeast). Hence the gap between rich and poor would only widen.
That leaves us with only 2 alternatives as far as I see it:
1 Poll tax: charge everyone the same- unfortunately the chavscum in our society would riot like before so this won't happen
2 take most of local provision into the national income taxes/VAT, and still charge locally based on use of bins etc- unfortunately the chavscum will just empty their bins into someone else's, and as they're not working they won't be paying income tax either.
All in all I don't think there's actually an easy solution to this one.0
