Aerial Installation

Just to give the picture here.....when I bought my house literally every room has an aerial cable coming down from the ceiling (well the bedrooms anyway) - also there is what looks like a cable box in one of the bedrooms and there is a satellite dish outside so will assume that is there for a reason

Anyway the one that matters in the living room doesn't seem to work very well - I am in a strong signal freeview area and can get a picture with a portable aerial but not that great.....

I want to install a totally new aerial in the living room and hopefully get rid of the ones in the bedrooms (the aerials all seem to be in the loft). Will an aerial company be able to come in and do this and also does anyone have any ideas of cost for a brand new aerial installation for living room?

Thanks in advance.

    hi
have you got an ariel on the roof or just a dish? About 5 yrs ago had a new ariel installed cost £250. If you have a dish presumably people had sky might be cheaper to have sky instead (don't need ariel only dish). This is what we have done on our new house - £75 to install have basic package for 1 year - can canel left with box and still get all freeview channels. (might be worth asking a sky man in a van if you see one nearby - might sort it out privately for you).

    hi

without sounding bad about the poster £250 to get a ariel installed is way over the top £100 or under is about right saying that tell me:

you say they are in loft i take it you mean 1 ariel with feeds coming of it to all the rooms?

if so remove the extra feeds that will help your signal to main tv

or fit a booster to you main tv that will help
If you dont like me remember its mind over matter, I dont mind and you dont matter ;)
  • Thanks for replies guys - have looked up the loft - I see 3 different aerials which must account for some of the cables in the bedrooms. I have looked on the roof and even though there is an aerial cable coming out of the living room there doesn't appear to be an aerial attached on the roof (unless that too is in the loft space!). The whole house seems to have been one bizarre aerial experience !!

Perhaps I should maybe get a couple of aerial companies to come in and quote me - I did consider the sky option but was a customer of there's for years and to be honest I'm quite happy with freeview.

to have an Ariel going in and 3 or more going out, 99% of the time means it involves a special box (splitter). You get active (need power and usually have a built in amp) and passive ones (no power or amp).

The other 1% is where someone has used a load of y-spliters, which is a bad way of doing things.
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

No that's perfectly reasonable ..at least in the south east. I paid around £200 and so did one of my neighbours. I rang around for quotes at the time and all quotes were similar.

By the way it's AERIAL not ariel which is a washing powder!
