audio interface is what I'm looking for...

ok.. not sure whether this is in the correct thread or not... but I'm looking for an audio interface (I have an apple ibook). The interface would have to have 2 balanced XLR inputs, firewire or USB2. I need something which is a bargain (if ya get what I mean). I'm also looking for sound recording monitors too (ie speakers). Anyone can point me in the right direction would be a great help. I've searched the net, and haven't really found anything that has impressed me to be honest, maybe someone here could offer something with a WOW factor.

There are almost no USB2 interfaces around besides a couple made by Edirol. Of the firewire interfaces the Focusrite Sapphire has had good reviews.

I don't think I've seen a firewire interface with 2 xlrs for under about £250. You may have to look at USB1 interfaces which are more common and still being produced. These can handle 2 channels of audio with no problem. For xlr inputs your probably still looking at £150 (Edirol UA25). The Novation Speedio though is £99 and I think that has xlr inputs. It can be found much cheaper in places as it's being cleared out.

yeah ya right, think I'm forking out or getting second hand (which isn't the best option)
