Connecting 2 sites by phone/walkie talkie

We have 2 sites, a main surgery and branch surgery and unfortunately the phone costs associated with to and fro calls between the 2 sites are progressively increasing, forcing a rethink on possible alternatives..

Initially thought about a walkie talkie however the distance between the 2 sites is 4 miles so possibly out of range for any walkie talkie.

Both sites have broadband, hence was thinking about the possibility of connecting through VOIP/SIP which might offer free calls.
The problem here is that there has to be 2 cordless/landline phones ie not through computer based programs like googletalk etc to call from one site to the other.
Another possibility?using mobile phones with ?favourite numbers so that all calls between them are free??

Or Vyke/fring or any of the newer VOIP technologies to do this?

Any idea on how this can be done pls do write
Thanks

Won't a VOIP modem/router do the trick? IIRC, they typically have standard phone sockets, so you can plug your existing cordless landline phone directly into the router.

    For example, this product:

has the capability to use one phone for both conventional telephone and VOIP calls.

From what I can gather you won't need a VOIP service provider, as you own both ends of the VOIP call.

You can get cordless phones that plug both into a landline and also your pc - this would allow you to make free IP calls ( using Skype, etc ) whilst still retaining the landline option.
