recording from dvd player need help?

Options
Hi, I just wanted to know if its possible recording from a dvd movie onto video tape. I have just tried recording one of my dvd's onto a video tape but it comes in black & white. Does anyone know why this happens as I'm sure I purchased the correct wire.
Thanks

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
    yes it can be done.
but, many movies have macrovision on them.
this turns on a circuit in the player that means if you try to copy the disc you will get a bad picture.

If you have a TV with 2 scarts, some will clean up the signal so connect dvd-> tv -> video. If this doesn't work, then you can buy units for around £40 that will recolour/resync depending on the protection method.

Copying this type off material is illegal.
Is it worth it? Probably not.

I just wanted to copy some songs on one of my dvds on a video tape as I have a video player in my room. I didn't know it was illegal so I think I'll leave it its not worth the hassle.
    Thanks anyway for your help
  • If you already own and have paid for a DVD (i.e. you have a "legal" copy) then I understood that it was permissible to copy an extract or all of a DVD - as long as the copy is for your own use. So, provided you wanted to put the extracts onto a videotape for use in another part of your house I think that is OK

    Or am I wrong??

Thats right I already own the dvd I jus wanna make the copy of the songs for my own personal use so I can see the video upstairs.
I jus wanted to record of 1 dvd but I've left it now as its a very complicated thing I thought you would jus need a wire.

I think that you are allowed to make copies for your personal use - need to check the copyright notice if you want to stay legit.

You can get a specialised scart cable that can overcome macrovision.

EDIT please read the disclaimer for legal advice on that site.

  • https://www.sonel.com have a similar product which is a bit cheaper. I ordered one last week as I have hooked a DVD player up in the bedroom which cannot be connected to the scart of the TV. I needed to connect it through a VCR so had to get rid of Macrovision. The Scart from SONEL does the job well. (You may also need to purchase a AC adaptor to plug into the Scart lead for it to work)
