Last year I lived in a 2 bed all elec apartment in north east with energy supplied by npower on economy 7 tarif. My monthly DD worked out at c. £76.00 per month.
I have since moved (same circumstances) to 2 bed dual fuel apartment in same area with energy supplied by scottish power. My monthly DD was calculated at £52.00 per month, but due to usage, has just been reduced to £26.00 per month ! Now, I know that elec storage heaters are by no way the best form of energy, but a £50.00 per month difference ?

well gas (after the primary units) is about 3.5p per kWh (with a modern boiler), whereas E7 units will be 5p or 6p - and that assumes you never topped up the storage heaters at peak rate which would have cost 10p (ish) per kWh.
I assume you provided actual readings and never relied on estimates?
At the end of the day, you should not guage your usage based on the DD ammount (the supplier would like you to because it allows them all sorts of fiddle factors to con you into thinking you are getting a good deal) - you should always compare apples with apples by comparing the price per kWh.

MPI have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.
