Hi Bogged Down - hope you a feeling a little better today. There appear to be a few people who have posted new threads in much the same vein as you so it just proves you are not on your own out there! Have you do your meal planner yet? Have rifle through your cupboards and see what you have there first and try and build a couple of meals around what you have. I'll check back on the forum later. Rage x
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green :D
  • Hey Rage,
You know what? I did just that last night! Checked through the cupboard and freezer and have sorted a meal for every night this week. I'm quite chuffed with that. I also cut my electric bill to £64 and I'm in blooming credit with them! They are evil! I'm loking at things a little more clearly now. I can handle this and it will just take a little time. I went to tesco yesterday and although i will buy economy brands i am now trying other ones too. I always look for cheap branded offers or buy one get one etc. This forum actually works as an outlet for me. Thanks x

Well Done! That's two steps done. Now we have to get you to the CAB and address the other outgoings. It's going to be a long haul but it's manageable. By the way, Mr Snuffles says hello! (well, actually what he said was "snort snort grunt snuffle" but I guess it's the same thing"). Plus, that hideous wallpaper could have been yours!!! I will check back tomorrow to see how you've got on at the CAB. Rage x

Hi Bogged Down - how are you today? Have you been able to get a chance to see/talk to the CAB?

  • Hey Rage,

Well went to CAB... waited in a small smelly room, finally was seen by a lovely lady who basically couldn't help me. She got advice from her manager to see if I should see one of their debt counsellors but came back with a piece of paper with National debtline and CCCS detils on it. I think the CAB's debt counsellors would have got me to do a SOA anyway to see what Ingoins and outgoings I have. Obviously I had already done that so I was a step ahead of their process (well at least I'm a step ahead somewhere!).

I'm gonna call debtline today. I had enough yesterday- there is only so much a gal can take in one day!

What kinda payment plan are you following: DRP? IVA?

Have to wait til 9am to call... most annoying that I only have a mobile phone to ring an 0800 number!!
Oh to be my dogs- they are fast asleep on the sofa, snoring with not a care in the world!:rotfl:

    Catcha later!

Hi Bogged Down. Sorry the CAB couldn't help - I'm surprised actually but perhaps they're just overwhelmed at the moment. Still, at least you have the other people to tackle now so nil desperandum Rodney!! :D Well, I'm not actually on any payment plan as we nipped it in the bud before it got that far - me being paranoid about being in debt. I just make it a personal mission to help people like yourself as when I was little my Dad died and my Mum really struggled to keep us above water. When you've comforted your crying Mum as she's worried about paying bills when you're 13 it makes a big impression on you I can tell you. I've still got her account books (my Sisters were both married when Dad died and I don't think they had a clue how it was, what with them being self centred and all....  ). They make for grim reading I can tell you. Since then I have been passionate about helping people such as yourself out. The last girl I helped who was in as much as yourself was a couple of years ago where I worked. Last month she bought her own house!! So it can be done!

  • Thank you Rage, you actually brought tears to my eyes. Sorry about your history and well done for being the 'strong' one for so long. I had past surrounded by money shortage and debt but thankfully was very lucky to have 2 loving parents ( which obviouslt helps a lot!). Financilly i never wanted to be in the same position as my father (who didn't manage money well) and went bankrupt in the 90's, losing his business, our home and everything we knew ( had to move away quickly from family home into rented). I just assumed that when I went to Uni to better myself and get my profession under my belt that 'DEBT' wouldn't be part of my life- but that was a very naive thought. I workd 3+ jobs to get through Uni through term time and holidays and thought my future will be fine. I didn't know then that my long term bf who then became my fiance would have long term depression and not work for 3 and a half years when I had qualified! He was meant to be finishing his masters degree and I supported him by paying the bills with 2 jobs (seven days a week), then he would be getting his 'well paid' job and everything would be sorted; he 'managed' my money so we could pay our bills and juggle 0% credit cards. Ho-hum- again, silly me! Any way- I'm not dwelling on this just tryring to explain where I'm coming from.

I appreciate your daily contact- really helps

    Speak later x

    Hi Bogged down

Looks like you've started to make a bit of headway with the saving. Still a little to shave off the groceries, but a good start.
Council tax - if you are paying this over 10 months, can you ask if you can pay it over 12?

Do you know the state of your credit history? You can check it free at experian (if you cancel within 30 days). If you haven't had too many late payments you may be able to get a 0% card like the virgin money one to transfer some of the higher interest debts to. (This card allows you to transfer to CC or current account so there's no conflict with paying another card using the same provider. Also min payment is 3% 1st month, then £25 2nd - 15 months)

Your finances are just the wrong side of being tight, but hopefully we'll be able to sort it.
After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

    Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
    Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0

    Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/2011
  • Hi George.
Appreciate the reply. The groceries shopping also include the dog food. I go out of my way to get a good deal for dried food for my two dogs by
condition- colitis. i have stuck them on diets however and they will have to like it (weight food and them and they are the tiniest bit over weight!).

My credit rating with Experian is good and I had account with them for £5.99 a month- but equifax is not so good. 2 payments from 3-5 yrs back paid late! The account with experian was being paid out of my credit card (stupidly didin't cancel it for over a year!).
    thanks again for you input.

    Bogged down x
  • Been on hold to National debtline for 15 mins on my mobile...how much will that cost me?! I don't have a home phone! :o(
