Credit card "can't find you"

I had managed to clear most of my cards a few years ago but had been charged a considerable sum over the time I had the cards.
I followed your advice and used the credit unfair charges reclaim template. I provided all my details DOB, previous and current address the one thing I didn’t have was the credit card number.
They have all responded saying “from the information provided, it is not possible to trace the account”.
I would think that with all my details they would be able to find me in their system.
I’d like your advice as to what I maybe able to do without the card number?

If you had not used your account for a while there is the possibility that the account has been 'purged' from the system that standard operators are using.

However, they should have a backup of the data somewhere that they can access.

Have you not got anything to show you had the card; statement, card, letters, agreement?
