HB and JSA - how long?

hi,

I applied for JSA and HB on the 13th of this month. I have received a letter telling me that they have decided how much I am due JSA but no sign of anything on the HB front. I am very worried as my rent is due Monday and this will have to come out of my OD and I'm not sure how long I can maintain this ...

Thanks for any advice,

Jen

HB can take ages but legally they must make a decision on a claim within 14 days of receiving all the info they need. Once 14 days has expired you are entitled to request an interim payment.

Phone them up and hound them! They are quite likely to have not asked ofr all the info they need from you so check. My last claim took ages because theire computer 'saya we sent you a letter asking for...' - when I didn't recieve anything. I actually ended up losing £1200 of my benefit. G*ts. Anyway- the moral of this story..ask for a date when they will let you know and call EVERY WEEK untill they do! (And make a note of the date, time and who you spoke to!)
    Good luck

Is this regardless of whether they have the right info or not ... they never even asked for a copy of my rent agreement .... just said I would need it and that was that......

    Thanks

Yes so if you have paid up to 31 / 05 say they wont pay you until july. Some landlords dont allow HB as there is a condition in most buy to let mortgages. Also as im my case I am not having any more HB tenants due to the change in rules which pays the tenant not me. It probably depends on the council but my experience of dealing with councils is not a good one.

    Hi,

How will you know that they are receiving HB?

Also what's your reasoning behind why this as not all HB tenants are a bad lot; I'm pretty good in fact and look after the property much more than my ft working house mates and what business is it of anyone where I get my money from... this is a short term solution until I can sort my personal problems out and dig myself out....

I agree they are not all bad. I have nothing against them but the new system allows too much to go wrong. This will have an adverse effect on the responsible people.
    1) there is an extra link in the chain that can fall apart
    2) mine are single mums and what happens if they need the money for say care for a sick kid. My mortgage company doesnt accept excuses. As it is because west berks council is unreliable I changed the pay dates to near the end of the month.
