I need some info regarding the comptia A+ course
I looked at a training provider aand they wanted approx £700-800 for the course + exam fees.
Can I study the course myself (books cost sabout £30-40) and then pay for the exam by itself ?
Has anyone done this or know how ?, is it as easy as contacting one of the test center and paying through them to take the exam ?

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

Sitting core next week.
To be honest it's not that difficult though some of the things you need to learn off by heart (internals and process of a laser printer, IRQ's, certain address ranges, which cables and lengths you can use on different SCSI standards, etc).
You can buy the exam vouchers online at a number of different places and then you simply use the voucher to book at your local test centre. Vue and Prometric both do vouchers for Comptia but not all test centres are Vue or Prometric accredited so you'll need to find which vouchers your local testing centres use. I think you can find that out from the Comptia site.
You need 2 vouchers as there are 2 exams - Core (Hardware) and OS technologies (i.e. Windows). I think they are around £100 each.
As for books - the Mike Meyers ones.

The Learnkey video's by Mike Meyers are very good but they aren't cheap. You can buy test exams from various internet sites.
If you have Usenet (Newsgroup) Access then read alt.certification.a-plus - you should also be able to access this through Google Groups.
http://www.passitnow.com/comptia.html is useful too
There are some A+ certification forums but I can't find the link at the moment.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

thankyou, they where actually the books I was looking at. The course seems no problem, so I may as well save myself the £700 or so and just study myselfI no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals.
