When reading email from Opera is there any way it will open OE, and also on this web site there is a scroll bar that sometimes appears at the bottom of the page, I think big pictures that have been posted affect this situation, is there anway so I can get shot of the scroll bar?

Ctrl F11
or
hold down - (minus) on the keypad to zoom in until the scrollbar disappears
then use keypad numlock and press 6 to restore view to original size.
Above work independently for ech tab or window open.

No.
Opera mail is the only client that will integrate into the browser, so it's an either or I'm afraid (although you can import the whole of your OE inbox into Opera mail).

Does that mean mailto links always open Opera's mail?
I haven't used Opera for a while and was going to give the new version a whirl0 -

No. In Tools -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Programs you can choose between Opera Mail, System Default E-mail Client or Specific E-mail Client.
The 'mail link to' context menu will then open whichever you have chosen above.

I have always used IE and not really had any probs with it. However if I want to try Firefox or Opera do they run alongside IE so I can switch back if I don't get on too well and do I really need to know about the add ins etc for basic browsing?0

You can runs as many browsers as you like!
They'll all ask if you want them to become your default when they first run. Just select no.
The other browsers won't take up any resources unless you click on their icon so you can try lots of different ones without really having any problems0 -
If you accidentally make another browser your default, here is how to change back.
In IE:
Tools / Internet options
then under te Programs tab tick "IE should check to see whether it is the default browser"
When you restart IE, it will ask you if you want IE as default0 -
Here's a flash tutorial showing you what it's like to install Firefox
