What policies should I get?

Dont rely on the 3* death in service benefit from a employers pension scheme though, it's worth £0.00p if the shock of your redundancy notice kills you.0

That's good advice, though not much chance in my job (a shortage profession). In fact redundancy after all these years and early retirement would be very nice (for a while!)somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0

Thank you again, you have all been very helpful,to be honest I really have no idea what my pension would be with nhs,I had to get a forecast about 4 yrs ago as ended up in court for a final judgement day with ex husband, think it was about £30,000 then,I just pay into it and hope for the best. But I am going to get familiar with that one.It must be ok if my ex wanted half of it:DThank goodness he didn,t.
Thank you Pandora for your posts, kids do prey on my mind,I don,t really think both ex,s would go out of their way to spite their own individual kids but together they would be a nightmare with money.I don,t want to leave behind any battles, for the kids.
IFA my god it,s a minefield out there with policies,I looked up the 1 you suggested, and have emailed a few companies and brokers for quotes and more info.Never even thought of redundancy:eek:NHS though, is changing fast and it,s certainly not a pleasant environment anymore to work in, we all have been informed of late about sickness policy really tightening up,too many episodes and you are out.So thought about ever needing to take time off as OP posted and even though I would be likely to receive 6 months full pay,as had 3 days off in 2 yrs we have been encouraged to take it as unpaid leave,if nhs considers it as unecessary:oPlus that would be more likely to ensure you will still have a job to come back too. However a lot of my money is boosted by my shift work which I would lose if I was ever ill,so think that,s a policy important to me.Never want to lose my home,I love my home and the peace here.I have moved around too much I think.Well you have all given me a much better idea of the direction I need to pursue,in fact I am looking forward to tying up the loose ends as a family.I am a someone who does,nt cope with pressure very well,no suprises there, but since discovering MSE,I don,t say I can follow the really indepth money talk but I always read the posts and I think so many of you are so well versed and helpful,it,s great for people like me.I have changed so much since last year, money wise, budgeting, mortgage, saving and getting out of debt, even paying off an overdraft I have had for 8 yrs finally in Feb,so thank you everyone for your help,I think it,s great you all post your knowledge, help and kind words.:Dx0 -
My scenario is I have a partner (therefore unmarried!) and we have a two year old daughter.
My complication is the family home is in my name as well as the mortgage. Value £225k, mortgage outstanding £45k. I also have a buy to let property value £180k, mortgage £70k, again ownership and mortgage in my sole name. I have savings of £40k. As you can work out I'm about on the limit for IHT.
A recent complication is both me and my partner have just taken out single life assurance of £300k each. We intend to put this in trust. If she dies it's straight forward the money goes to me. However, confusion rains if I put mine into trust to my partner. What happens about the mortgages and therefore the family home and buy to let properties? Obviously both properties are left to my partner in my will.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.0 -
