We could send the greatest band in the world, but the fact is we would never beat the political voting"I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"
For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!0 -
very true.........although Israel don't have many friends and they did really well this year.

We could put our all into it - and it still wouldn't be important.
It's Eurovision, and I think other countries have a better perspective on it. We should send a chicken next year instead of the turkeys we normally send..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
"We were born and raised in a summer haze." Adele 'Someone like you.'
"Blowing your mind, 'cause you know what you'll find, when you're looking for things in the sky." OMD 'Julia's Song'0 -
Ireland tried that and it all failed :cheesy:"I'm not from around here, I have my own customs"

Loved the Latvian entry - watching it at the mo. I absolutely agree with Keren, there was one 'euovision' song in the mix for the UK, but Andy A got chosen. Keren is spot on with the analysis, since the 'people' of teleland got to choose we have lingered round the 'nil points' section. Our song this year was very poor and deserved to be where it ended up. That was nothing to do with political voting and everything to do with a bad song.
I know the political voling is important, but if we got someone really well known internationally and they them launch their newest song e.g. Scissor Sisters, I think we would have a chance.
Most countries put their biggest stars in. We should do the same - wonder if they would do it?
I thought the countries had to sing in their own languges - when did that change?0 -
I completely disagree - I thought the UK entry was a good tune with some interity and no botox or breast implants in sight.
I think a successful song writer should submit a tune in disguise ...0 -
I think a successful song writer should submit a tune in disguise ...
That has happened before in the UK...........I can't remember the details other than it reaching the final 8, at a time the public had 4 to choose from........
Hale and Pace once secretly entered a song, I think it got to the last 16!"Stay Wonky":D

How nice to find somewhere I can 'out' myself as a friend of Eurovision
I'm with the mighty Terry on the voting issue. The UK (and other western European nations to a lesser extent) could enter the best song ever, sung by the best known artist(es), but have no chance of winning. Or even getting close to it.
The voting is clearly political. I'm one of those people who sits during the results round and guesses who's going to get the top three marks from country 'x'. (Sad, yet strangely satisfying...)
I can't claim a 100% hit rate, but it was pretty close. The formula pretty much runs: Turkey will get a top three mark from Germany; Greece will get a top mark from Cyprus; Russia will get a top three mark from former soviet states (whether that's due to nostalgia, blood ties, or where the gas is coming from...); Balkan states will give each other top three marks, except where ethnic rivalries intervene. And so on.
If Italy had been a contestant this year, the UK's mark from San Marino would probably have been lower, to compensate for the marks given to Italy.
Russia could have entered the most ridiculous song, with the most ridiculous presentation (unusual choice of tense there) and still have had a strong chance of winning, just because of the politics. IMO only, of course
