Charged interest on SBT from Egg

in Credit cards
I was moving some balance transfers through EGG this month and was amazed when I checked my statement to find they had charged me interest on them even though my account did not go over the limit & was in fact in credit when I did the transfers. I spoke to a c/s person who was at a loss to explain it. She spoke to a supervisor who came back with the explanation that it was because I had done the BT's after my payment date (16th). That didn't make sense to me & when challanged the c/s person admitted it made no sense to them either. The supervisor did say that as a i]gesture of goodwill[/i] they would refund the charges but refused to speak to me on the phone to explain it.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any suggestions as to why it might have occurred? I was completely puzzled by it.

Nope
Done many SBT's no charges, though tend to leave the credit on the account for a couple of days before transferring away.
THOUGH I have noticed one thing, that when you put the account in credit, apparently it shows as a debit for a couple of days ??, before the system corrects itself, so maybe, just maybe you doing the credit and transfer out near the statement date has had this effect.
In future try to do the transactions earlier in the month, well before the statement date0 -
So you've had no problem putting the card in credit and then SBT'ing into your current account? How much have you put it in credit by?I'm married now! Yippee!0

I have been charged twice around a pound for purchase interest when there was no activity from myself. They have changed their terms and conditions to add £5 to the previous 2% minimum payment. I got a partial refund after complaining . I have to pay back my free capital soon and I will vent my misgivings on the very pleasant and professional staff at Egg. I may request a balance increase as compensation.

NH my Egg card has gone £2700 in credit with no problems but I've heard of some people putting their card £10k-£15k in credit with no problems too. Egg doesn't seem to mind (unlike some other lenders, Halifax being one).0 -

The card was in credit but 3K and then SBT'ed to cover my current account overdraft, I phoned again today and spoke to someone different in the hope of getting an explanation but the staff seemed as confused as me realy. Still they are refunding the charges so I guess all is well but I just wanted to be able to avoid it in future.
