looks like a carrot but has purple flowers what is it?

i bought and planted some purple carrot seeds i have so many weeds growing in my patch that i dont know if they are growing. the only things that i thought were carrots have just started sprouting purple flowers. are they my carrots or just a weed? thanks

Carrots don't flower until their second year; and alot of plants have purple flowers so it's hard to tell without a photo.

If you have alot of weeds, carrots take an age to germinate, so they may have been swamped by the weeds covering them. Carrot seedlings have 2 long leaves, which make way to feathery foliage. When did you sow the seeds?

a good 6 weeks ago, i have carrots at home so know what they look like and this weed looked similar up until i went down there today (they are at the alotment) just hadn't tried the purple variety before so i guess that they havn't germinated and i'll start again. thanks

I know which weed you mean but can't think of it's name right now :doh: It has leaves very similar to carrots and little purple flowers. I've got loads of it in my garden too and keep pulling it out, but the first time I saw it I thought it was carrots too :rotfl:

thats the one, thanks at least i know i'm not pulling up carots now lol, i'll plant something else now.
