please help: claiming tax back

My OH works via an employment agency, getting temp work. Last year, most of the temp jobs he received were paying weekly, and offering full time hours, so he was paying full whack for tax. However, there were large periods of time during which he didn't get work, and for the first 3 months of the year he was volunteering, so we estimate that at most he was only employed and being paid for 6 months.
Unfortunately, we cannot confirm this as the P60 that he got for the end of year tax records from the agency only displayed the most recent job, and earnings/tax from that.
We're pretty sure that he earned little enough to be due a fair chunk back from the tax office, but we don't know how to get it. I understand he needs to get a form from the tax office showing his total earnings and tax paid for the year, and then needs to get a form to get the money, but I can't find either of these on the tax office website.
If anyone can point me in the right direction, or offer advice, I'd be very grateful. Since I work full time, we're not entitled to any benefits and we could really use this tax money.
