Gas Meter being resited help !

This is not from choice but have been instructed that it is to happen due to being built over, i.e. about 20 years ago someone added an attached garage and the meter has remained in the garage ever since. I assume It is going to be resited on the front wall of the house under a window, but as we haven't heard from anyone since we were issued with a notice 4 months ago, have no idea what to expect.
My main concern is how the gas will run from the new meter site to connect with the existing point where the gas enters the house. Will a pipe be embedded in the wall ? I'm thinking about the cavity wall insulation getting in the way.
Has anyone had this done and could tell me what happens please ? Thanks.

    Who has instructed that this has to happen? It's been fine for 20 years!

    Hi, we had our gas turned off when workmen severed the mains in the road and when the bloke came to turn the gas back on he issued a notice saying it was illegal. I assume that regulations have changed over the years and it is now not acceptable. Thing is, at least 20 other properties in this estate have either a built on garage or side conservatory/utility room which encloses their meter so I don't know how come we got picked on.

    Did they say WHY it was "illegal"?

    Sounds like something missing - lots have properties have their meters indoors / in garage / in cellar / under kitchen sink

    Are they saying that before the garage was built the meter would have been in one of those hole in the wall boxes (facing outside)? And now it faces into the garage??

    :confused::confused::confused:
    :confused: I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.:cool:

    Yes, that's correct.When the house was built the meter was on an external wall but is now inside the garage which has a flat roof.
