Security Lighting

Hi i'm looking to replace the security lighting outside my house. We have just moved in and one out of for of the PIR lights work and thats round the back of the house and as my GF leaves for work early morning it's pitch black out the front which she's not happy about.

So i'm looking for 3 PIR security lights, Can anyone recommend some lights at a resonable price? Also are they straight forward to fit?

Thanks,

Pete.

  • Hi Pete,

Security lights are very easy to fit, just use common sense and ensure that-
    1. you turn off the electricity supply first.
    2. the lights have an earth wire connected (if needed, most outside lights do need earthing)

Don't go for the cheap hologen fittings from the DIY sheds as they will only last a year or so and will need replacing. Don't buy replacement halogen bulbs from sheds either as they cost more than a new fitting with a free bulb included (normally).

There are some pir lights here-

Choose the fittings carefully as the really cheap ones don'e last long.

You have two choices pay more money and get a decent quality one that should last for years or buy the cheaper ones and throw them away after a few years. It depends if you don't mind changing the lights regularly!

    Good luck

  • Have you tried replacing th ebulbs in th elights, I know it sounds obvious but thats normally all it takes. Also check to see if they are live, they could have an on/off swith somewhere in the house to disable them, this is normally used to set there use, most security lights have multiple features where by toggling them on/off within 1 second sets them to PIR detection, on/off in 3 seconds (approx) can be permanently on etc.

Also worth checking the sensor is pointing in the right direction and is clean, and adjusting the sensitivity before buying replacements. There is normally an adjustment for sensitivity on the sensor itself.
